RYANAIR WELCOMES JUDICIAL REVIEW OF LABOUR COURT PROCEEDINGS
Ryanair this afternoon welcomed the High Court?s decision to judicially
review the recent Labour Court proceedings in a case brought by IALPA the
Irish Airline Pilots? union.
IALPA which primarily represents Aer Lingus pilots (and is not recognised
in any of the other main Irish airlines, including Ryanair, Cityjet or Aer
Arann) attempted to persuade the Labour Court that Ryanair?s pilots did not
negotiate a five year pay deal and option agreement and that this current
agreement has no legal effect. All of the evidence in this case disproves
these claims and Ryanair believes that the judicial review will vindicate
Ryanair?s position.
Welcoming today?s judicial review decision, Ryanair?s Director of
Personnel, Mr Eddie Wilson, said:
?This must surely be the first time in history that a trade union and the
Labour Court have suggested that a group of workers who have negotiated a
pay increase and share options are somehow not entitled to them. We intend
to overturn this erroneous Labour Court finding so that Ryanair?s Dublin
pilots can enjoy the pay increase and the share options which they have
previously negotiated directly with the airline?.
