Aerobatics annual celebration lived a spectacular weekend even between
rainshower and clouds
Once again, Villleneuve was the pilgrim's obliged place for every fan of
aerobatics. Everything has been done in order to make a great show from this
last rendez-vous before the 1st FAI Aerobatics World Championships that will
take place next year on this same site.
After the qualifying runs of Wednesday and Thursday, 16 paragliders solos,
12 teams out of synchro and 17 hanggliders pushed their glides to the limits
in order to offer a high-level show to the spectators.
That came in spite of a capricious weather. Once again, these acrobats of
the sky linked with brilliance a festival of misty flip, tumblings (up to 6
in a raw for the best!) and mac twist, trying to get the final victory in
this World cup event.
Once more, the Rodriguez family went up on the highest step of the podium,
to wonder whether the D.N.A is not an essential data to gain the test of
synchro category... For the other categories, the rising generation has
demonstrated its talents since Guillaume Chatain who won the solo
competition and Guido Gehrman gains the victory among deltists.
From a sporting point of view, the weekend is therefore positive, since the
competition could proceed normally in spite of the weather. The general
assessment of the weekend would be a little less enthusiastic, since the bad
weather discouraged some of the public to come and that it is an essential
source of income to ensure the financing of such a competition. Pilots
incoming, implementation of the various groups of intervention to ensure
their safety in competition - boats, divers, medical assistance- but also
the infrastructure necessary to ensure the incoming and comfort of a
faithful public as well as for the 300 voluntary ones which made this event
happen, generates considerable costs. The organization of the 1st
Championships of World FAI which will proceed from the 16 to August 27, 2006
in Villeneuve is indeed budgeted with nearly half a million of Swiss franks,
cover to date mainly by the receipts of the demonstration.

2. Michael Knipping (D)
3. Antoine Going up (FR)
