|
|
Hello:
I have been given the task to purchase a radio for our club.
I am looking at an avaionic tranceiver.
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/av/trans_icom.html
I belive that radios are like cell phones. The hand held cell phones
are limited to 0.6 watt and the bag phones are 3 watt. Avionic radios
seem to be the same but under different rules.
Is it true that the hand held radios are only 5 watt but the
stationary base ones are 25 watt?
Does anyone know which one of the hand held radios in the link above
you would consider as being the best one. Thanks |

A handheld radio on any band will generally be 5 watts, you may find
an occasional HIGH POWER one that states 7.
The A-200 has 9 memories, a standby and current channel, and is 7
watts.
The A-110 has 20 memories, appears to have alpha capability, and 36
watts.
I'm assuming you're looking to install in a base / office. The main
thing to be concerned is altitude of the aircraft you're talking to.
You don't need hundreds of watts. You'd probably be fine with a 7 watt
base with a decent outdoor antenna. |
