OT: Hampden hosts 2007 Uefa Cup final

More excellent news for Scottish airports if the Champions League CF was
anything to go by with flights spread all over the central Scottish
airports.

Great news, however we will not have any idea as to the expected amount
of traffic till about a month before. I dont suppose it will be as big
as the last time as both teams came from large western european
countries. However hope it will come close to the last one.

I doubt if we could ever expect the same level of interest for a UEFA
Cup final but at least some Scots might be able to get tickets for it!
I wasn't at the 2002 CL final but watched it in the city in Merchant
Square and it was a quite extraordinary night. The response both the
German and Spanish supporters got from the locals I'm sure convinced
many to return to Scotland. The most poignant momemt was the standing
ovation that every group of supporters got when they returned into
O'Neills after the match. It made you proud to be Scottish (in an Irish
pub )

From an aviation point of view that would be all our worst nightmare!

Jim, by the time this game comes around I wonder what Glasgow will look
like. As we seem to be advancing the capacity and buildings bit by bit.
Looking into the crystal ball, I just wonder if this decision will have
any impact on BAA advancing any decisions, however I have my doubts.

You are JC and I claim my reward!
Seriously though - BAA are doing a splendid job in Scotland as the
figures for their Scottish portfolio continue to prove. I don't doubt
for a second they will continue to deliver as demand increases. It
wouldn't be in their interest to do anything else. The trick is to
continue to fly from Scottish airports and not fly via some southern hub
in the misguided belief you are supporting the `local` economy. See the
Scottish `bigger` picture and realise that by flying from Scotland you
are proving to airlines that there is a demand to fly from nearer to
home.
After all there are much more people employed at EDI from the west of
Scotland in indirectly related airport jobs than there are locals and
similarly there are much more people employed at GLA from the east of
Scotland than there are locals. The economies are intertwined along with
the success of the airports.

Correct, I have always flown from Scottish Airports through choice.
Mostly Glasgow and sometimes Edinburgh. Never up to now Newcastle which
is the same distace from my home as GLA and EDI. Sometimes payed a
premium for the priveledge.
