Memorial/Veterans Day Poem, #180: GHOSTSPEAK

When we enlisted
When we were drafted
When we accepted our commissions,

They told us

You will die
You will be shot
You will be wounded

And the people of this country will spit
on you.

They did not tell us
They would leave us to rot.
