Issue Regulations: Sharpshooter Badge/Medal/Ribbon
Military Sharpshooters are designated as per their qualifying test scores
during initial training or annual/period requirements. (Test scores vary
between testing centers and may change over time.) Sharpshooters are
positioned between Marksmen (below) and Experts (above). The three
categories of rifle qualifiers (Marksmen, Sharpshooters and Experts) were
created to position riflemen in semi-fixed positions on a battlefield.
Markmen are placed on the battlefield to engage enemy forces at close or
point-blank range. Sharpshooters are placed to engage at medium range.
Experts are placed to engage enemy forces are long distance ranges. The
Army and Marine Corps awards a badge. The Navy Awards a medal (Expert) and
Ribbon (Sharpshooters and Marksman)
