According to the magazine "International Airpower" In recent trials the
Typhoon often got the better on the F-22 because of its incredable agility
and was surprisingly able to get a radar lock for a BVR hit. Do anyone here
know anything about this.

The mispelling is only a mistake

Excuse me for asking but how is the Typhoon's "incredible agility" going
to assist it in a BVR hit?

One would imagine that it's "incredible agility" would be champion in a
dog fight but I'm not too sure you would ever get an F-22 pilot to
engage in one?

I'm not trying to be smart .. just wondering. :)

BVR usefullness is one of the great myths in military aviation. One of

the lessons learned in Viet Nam was never shoot at what you cannot id.
An embarassing number of US aircraft over Viet Nam were lost to BVR
friendly fire.

IR and Radar guided missiles are not IFF equipped, whatever they lock
on, they try to shoot down, and they don't care what insignia it is
wearing. BVR capability is pretty worthless operationally because BVR
lacks any ability to ID the target.

Keep in mind however that the F22 is likely to spot the Typhoon long
before the Typhoon spots the F22, simply because the Typhoon's radar
will give it away.

Perhaps a more interesting question however is exactly what are the
Typhoon and F22 going to be used against. The real need in the short
and medium term is a sucessor to the A10, a low speed, vicious attack
aircraft that is almost unbreakable. If you think Terrorism is the
major threat, then the F22, F35 and Typhoon are all pretty useless
weapons against low technology counter insurgency. You'd think we
would have learned that lesson from Viet Nam.
