Does anyone think that GSM will/could eventually offer flights to
'proper' European destinations other than the sunshine hotspots
currently on offer?Rather than continually getting their North
Atlantic schedules so wrong, and trying to expand from what seems like
every regional airport in England, should they have concentrated on the
closer European market and the demand to fly (at least) daily to CDG/
FRA/AMS/MAD etc etc?In other words, should they have gone for the
business brigade before totally wrecking what's left of their bucket
and spade customers?
These particular routes are not at all well served from Scotland, let
alone GLA,and EZY as we know continue to drag their heels with new
routes from GLA.Have they missed the boat? |

I think GSM should concentrate on not going down the Air Scotland path
first I can't see them offering anything worthwhile in Europe apart
from the sun spots i'm afraid.

I agree.Air Scotland(?) was doomed to failure from the start.GSM have
sort of established themselves now and have a decent(by comparison)
size fleet,so they would be better placed to make a decent go of
it,don't you think? |

I will be VERY surprised to see GSM still flying next year, according |
to staff, they have been told GSM needs to have a good year this year
as regards delays/cancellations etc... and clearly a good year they
are not having! Passengers have lost confidence in the airline with
folk happy to pay a wee bit more to at least be more sure of getting
where they are wanting to go. Agree they definitely should have jumped
on the "missing link" routes from GLA, but, they are so badly managed!
A shame really. |

Euro cities? No. GSM's business is very much about selling packages. They
gave a business type service to STN a go but soon withdrew. They also
planned EDI-MAD and GLA-Paris at one stage but changed their mind before
they got off the ground. TFS, ALC, AGP, etc suits their business perfectly.
I'd be far more enthralled by easyJet cornering the Euro city market and
hope for some good news from them soon.
The Canadian stuff GSM are now doing is simply taking the flying in house
where Globespan used to use Air Transat flights. That's why they have YHM
from all those UK airports and YYC/YVR from a select few.
The big problem at the moment is that they don't have as many aircraft as
they had planned by now so many flights are being changed/combined. Of
course they do reserve the right to do that as they see fit in the T&C's but
as everyone says it's not great for PR.
But very soon they will have 2 more 738's and another 757 and 2 767's coming
(the current one goes away then, leaving 2 available for the roster).
The GLA-BOS flights start this month with a 737-700. Hopefully they will go
smoothly from the outset.

They used to have a fantastic time keeping record and hopefully they will
again within a month when 4 more tx capable aircraft join the fleet just in
time for the busiest period.

I wouldn't write them off just yet. They are the single best thing GLA has
ever had IMO and deserve our support during this operational blip.

Hi Clive,
Agree that they were a breath of fresh air at first.I'm still
supporting them.Booked again to AGP in September with them. The
previous three flights were 100% on time,AGP,BCN and ACE.
I also share the same concern as Jim.Will they get through this 'blip'
and still be flying next year? They are getting quite a reputation for
themselves now.Canadian's are on A.net slagging them off no end!
With reference to the European destinations, someone must do it soon.I
really thought GSM could take it on.There is a market ready and
waiting. It seems to me that the direction they've taken, they're
competing in(mostly) well served markets.
Current update at GLA reads:
GSM111 AGP scheduled for 06.00,airborne 16.07!!
GSM152 LGW scheduled 09.50,airborne 16.53!!
GSM427 PMI scheduled 14.30,still showing scheduled!(it's now 17.03).
People will lose confidence in them very quickly if they don't sort
the likes of this out soon.
Bill. |

I've only had 3 flights with them and all arrived early. The current
problems are short term until they get the fleet they need to fulfill the
schedules.

Of course they will still be flying.

No wonder with the start they've had. Right now they don't have enough
aircraft but they will very soon.

Well they are serving the markets which support their tour operation
business. They are not into Euro city routes. I'd leave them to the likes of
easyJet who will do it properly and are best placed to attract pax from both
ends. Rather than planning expansion at the moment, they must concentrate on
getting the current problems sorted out.

Yes, the return LGW-GLA-YHM will be hopelessly delayed too. It must be a
nightmare for the company as well as the pax.

I don't think services from Scotland to those destinations are too bad
- CDG - 9 flights daily( with a choice of operator), FRA - 3 flights
daily, AMS up to 17 flights daily (again, choice of operator) and MAD
daily. |
