There's not a lot of real-world data on the costs. A couple of articles that
I've read estimated it north of $60K minimum. It could go way north of that
given the shape of your panel and any "might-as-well" upgrades that will
come up.

why not just buy an Aclaim? It already has the G1000 system built in.
I've got more than a bit of dual given in the G1000 and now I'm
wishing my Mooney had it too. Its nice to remove the metal process of
interpreting the instruments so you can spend your time thinking about
situational awareness, etc. In round dial planes its pretty easy to
get IFR students all mixed up, its much hard in the G1000.

Has anybody actually seen one of these delivered. Almost four |
years ago when the G1000's were announced I asked Garmin about
retrofit products (I ended up sinking a lot of money into a
more conventional panel: GNS480, MX20, STEC 55X, and steam
style HSI). They didn't have plans then. At Oshkosh they
announced the 900x (homebuilts) and 600 (certified) with
estimated availability dates in Janurary (07) but I've
heard nothing (the WAAS upgrade for the 430/530 was a bigger
story)). |

AFAIK, the G600 hasn't been certified yet. The Garmin website's
product release announcment says "anticipated availability in
mid-2007" and quotes an suggested retail price of $29,772, which
includes "the GDU 620 display/control unit, GRS 77 AHRS, GDC 74A
digital air data computer, GMU 44 tri-axial magnetometer, and GTP 59
temp probe."

But the product brochure says "certified on hundreds of airframes".
That was interesting to me because its hard to beleive the FAA would
blanket approve lots of airframes for a change this massive. I assume
the installation allows for the removal of the existing equipment, all
of which is part of the required equipment on the type certificate.
Usually the FAA isn't so quick to issue STC's allowing previously
required equipment to be discarded.
