Some of the things they want to do are so ridiculous that its scary. I do hope that they don't get into any sort of power at all. I had the chance to speak with one of them in Glasgow and I can tell you that his attitude was "WE'RE RIGHT DO AS YOUR TOLD", no debating, no discussing, nothing. Total and utter fool. I don't think the Greens are unique among politicians in that regard. The problem is that they have moved away from some of the basic ideas and are now wanting to become a main line party and this means wandering into other political areas. This could be their downfall in the future as they just cant keep on playing the green card. One of the things that is not widely published is the fact they want to get rid of the catholic schools and have non-denomination schools. This will not go down well with a lot of folk, even if they support the green issues, the religious thing will take over. Yes, it's tough being a single-issue party. I recall a few years ago they came out in favour of same-sex marriages. Absolutely nothing to do with the environment but to me it signalled that they wanted to make a name for themselves in all topical debates. Their politicians aren't as seasoned as those of other parties so they may well come across as having a bad attitude. Underneath I believe they're at least as genuine as the mainstreams. My theory is the reason why they spend so much time on air travel is that they reckon it is perceived as less of a criticism of people individually. The minute you criticise the private motorist you start alienating a big percentage of the support you might hope to win. You should have seen his face when I told him I drive 1.5 miles to work in it (true), that it doesn't ever do more than 12mpg and that I rarely have passengers besides my dog or my girlfriend.
