Curious thought while noodling early on a Sunday a.m. (0600). Anyone
else here ever been injured while flying a helicopter? Perhaps its
splitting hairs but twice now I've broken a finger getting out of
them. Landed my Hiller 12E crossways on irrigation rows to wait for my
loading truck and was getting out to take a whizz. My foot slipped on
the wet skid and I stepped down into the bottom of the row. When I
did, my little fingertip jammed on the horizontal window frame as I
did the sudden and unexpected drop another 12". Hurt like hell the
rest of the day until I could get to a clinic and get it set.
The second time was similar but was on a flat surface that was wet and
again I slipped as my feet hit the oily slick ramp. Once again a
finger jammed on a rivet row or something like it and broke the finger
tip. Now after many years, both small fingertips have an odd shaped
fingernail growing over the old break site. I am paying careful
attention when I get in and out of both airplanes and helicopters to
avoid any more simple stupid injuries.

btw: I'd like to do injuries to all ten fingers of the clown who keeps
posting the vitupourous venom vs Belfort. He/she is singlehandedly
ruining my desire to spend any time on this NG. |

I got whacked in the head pretty good by a Bolkow door. It was offshore and
we had a pretty good wind across the helideck. For some strange reason the
helo driver decided to land into the wind and the doors are hinged at the
front. Bad combination that. Anyway, I was helping unload and didn't keep an
eye on the door. Sure enough, whap! Good thing I'm hard headed...

Try not to let that dweeb get ya down. I just delete all those messages.
Nothing appears in my list except stuff that belongs here. Sure cleans up
the screen display.
I hope everyone will just delete his stuff when it appears, and get back to
rotorcraft discussions. I'd be happy to contribute myself, but I'm just a
wanna be from the fixed with ranks. But rotorcraft has always been my first
love, just beyond my budget. |

I see you get your news from Thunder, which is the same as mine, but I'm not
sure what you are using to actually read the messages. I use Outlook
Express. I can just set the highlight bar on a Belford message, and press
the delete key on my keyboard. It deletes the messages, and it's never
downloaded again.
How do you view your messages? |

Not while flying, but fell off the top of a 206BIII when my foot slipped out
of the kick step hole. Twisted the bejeebers out of my ankle and hurt my
back when I fell onto the little stepladder. I was rlly po-ed at myself
for that, but happy that i didnt even put a tiny scratch on the machine in
the process.

Oh yeah i forgot, im also always stabbing myself in the fingers with
safetywire and cotter pin ends while doing maintenance, but i figure
everyone does that.

Wellll I broke an ankle while crashing my Baby Belle, but I guess I wasn't
flying. It was at the bottom of a low rotor event. I felt more like a
passenger at the impact.
I did suffer two swelled up forearms whilst trying to learn to hover.

I've cracked my head on the top of the door frame crawling out of a
500D.. Done it a couple times getting in to R22s and managed to stuff
a split ring under a fingernail pulling the doors off an R22.

Kevin: The Central Sierra Helicopter Meet is this coming week-end. It
sounds like it could be interesting. Doug Schwochert and Blake Estes of the
Helicycle fame will be there as well as Martin Hollman, and I'm planning on
doing a balancing job on a Safari. + some lady giving instruction in an
R-22, some Rotorway types, the Rotorcraft Chairman of the GoldenWest fly-in
and in general a bunch of interesting people.

Kevin: A change. The Rotorcraft Chairman of the Golden West fly-in was the
gentleman that crashed and died at Marysville. Stan McDonald was to attend
the Central Sierra Helicopter meet. Stan was a Nam helicopter pilot and had
built and was flying his Barnett gyro. He joined our display at the Golden
West meet in 2006 and we helped recruit him for the Rotorcraft Chair for the
2007 event. The aviation community lost a gentleman of the first order.

Man, I'd love to come, but I'm out of my alloted heli-weekends for
May. May 11-13 I'm gonna be at an RC helicopter event down here and
the following weekend I'm going to a scale RC helicopter event up in
the Bay area...
You guys need to do something a bit closer to me! |

That's terrible... I just read an article about the crash... Sounds
like the prop might have hit the tail surfaces. |
