Having not flown IFR for awhile, I have to get an instrument
proficiency check. I have been looking forward to this.
First plan is to work on procedures in the AST300. Unfortunately, a
spring is broken in the control yoke so it does not return to center
and the thing has a roll rate that would put a Pitts to shame.
Still, I have never shown any sympathy for students who claimed it was
hard and have even less for myself. Really had to work on the scan! An
hour in there and I was soaked with sweat. I'll do some more tomorrow.
Then next week, I'll schedule a plane. But I need to order me some
approach plates, eh?
Meanwhile I have been catching up on what all my old students have been
doing. Some real well. Others not. Almost all have more advanced
ratings and certificates now, which is gratifying.
I prefer teaching instrument students, but for some reason the private
pilot students are always the most memorable. I am sure the excitement
of learning something new is a big part of it.
