If I want to get the commercial and multiengine rating (and commercial
single engine as well), could I do both at the same time and would
there be any benefit? My club requires a minimum of 5 hours with
their CFI to be checked out in a 172RG or 182RG, and 10 hours in the
Seminole. For the checkride, could I do everything in the SE and then
use the ME for the ME maneuvers?

Before I was thinking of doing the commercial SE before even starting
the ME, and then doing a second ME checkride.

If you do the CP/AMEL the CP/ASEL becomes an addon and you only have
to demonstrate the stuff not covered on the MEL checkride. The addon
can then be done in a fixed-gear 172 if so inclined since all the
complex and retract stuff would be covered as part of the MEL ride.

Even a C-150 for the CP/ASEL addon? I own a 150, maybe I can practice
learning the maneuvers in it since I don't have to pay for rental, then
do the multi-engine training and CP/AMEL, then get the CP/ASEL in the
150. Is this a good idea? Do you think it would take me longer in the
multi without doing the complex SE first (I have no complex experience)?

If you own a C-150 , I'd certainly learn the commercial maneuvers in it first.
I did about 8 hours or so in a C-172, then almost 2 more hours in the Arrow
right before the checkride so I wouldn't be doing the maneuvers for the first
time in a complex aircraft while on the actual checkride. If anything, the
maneuvers are easier in the complex because you set the throttle and don't worry
about the prop overspeeding so much as you might in the smaller AC.

Frankly, I don't remember doing anything other than ME stuff on my ME checkride,
even though it was for a commercial ME rating. The commercial SE was done some
years before.

I had 1000 hours in a Skylane when I got my commercial/multi engine rating.
I already
had an instrument rating. My instructor said that I wouldnt have to do the
manuvers if I
combined the two. For my checkride (from memory..it was 6 yrs ago) I had to
demonstrate
VMC, power on and power off stalls, stop and restart critical engine. We did
3 approaches,
2 with simulated engine out and all with the hood on. The oral was about 2
hrs and mostly
aircraft systems & procedures. I didnt have to do the 8's about a pylon,
chandella's (spelling)
and the other manuvers for the commercial rating. I took the check ride in
my 310. My
pilots license says my rating is: Commercial Pilot, Multi Engine Land,
Instrument Airplane,
Private Priveleges, Airplane Single Engine Land.

I prepared for both at the same time..
I completed all of the required commercial maneuvers in a Cherokee Arrow
Then within a month I completed the MEL requirements to the Commercial level
to include all of the instrument work previously mentioned in another post.
