RYANAIR WELCOMES RESTORATION OF SAFE IATA NORM TO HAND LUGGAGE

Ryanair welcomes the Government's decision to restore hand luggage
allowances to the IATA standard, however, the body search requirement has
still not been restored to the pre August 10th norm, which operates
effectively at every other European airport. While we welcome a return to
normality on hand luggage allowances, we continue to call on the Government
to restore the body search requirement to the safe and effective levels
that were in place prior to August 10th. Failure to do so is causing
unnecessary queues as the hard pressed front line security staff are being
forced to body search families, elderly couples and young children as if
they were potential terrorists, when clearly they are not. This is
ineffective, unnecessary and unsustainable.
