Good news for Aberdeen Airport as Flybe announces major expansion
BAA Press Release 23/06/06
Low-cost airline Flybe has announced it will be expanding its services from
Aberdeen Airport. The fast-growing company currently only has one route out
of the city to Belfast City Airport. However, that is all set to change,
with another three domestic routes starting up.
Two of the destinations have been named as Leeds-Bradford and Exeter while
the third will be revealed on Monday. The Leeds-Bradford and Exeter daily
services both begin on Sunday, October 29, with the Exeter aircraft leaving
at 10.45am and the Leeds-Bradford one at 12.15pm.
Both aircraft Bombardier Q400 turbo-props, which can each carry 78
passengers will return south at 14.05.
The airline says seats will be on sale from just £24.99 one way including
taxes and charges.
Flybe say the airline's significant increase in routes shows its commitment
to Aberdeen.
Aberdeen Airport managing director Andy Flower welcomed the announcement.
He said: "It is very much part of our strategy to work closely with
quality, low-cost operators to continue to develop the range of flights
and destinations available from Aberdeen Airport.
"The introduction of these new services is further good news for people
living in the north of Scotland, as it gives them greater choice at
competitive prices.
"We are delighted at Flybe's commitment to Aberdeen, particularly as it
comes so soon after Ryanair announced a new service from Aberdeen to
Liverpool, which also starts in October."
