They're setting quite a pace. How well served is Toronto from
Manchester during the winter months? Hopefully Globespan are
advertising themselves rigorously in the Manchester area, as they don't
seem to enjoy the same high profile status south of the border as they
do here. |

from Glasgow and Edinburgh, plus the new flights to Aberdeen. There's

Big mistake GSM going to MAN and Liverpool imo. They struggled at STN
because they where not known down there, MAN and Liverpool will be the
same unless they do a shit load of advertising. |

Indeed. I just feel their expansion is too fast and too good to be
sustainable.

Their long haul expansion certainly seems that way. They might have
been better advised to see how their Florida flights go before
committing themselves to too much more. Still, I wish them luck. |

It has made no difference to us. Since I saw it appear on our
intranet 2 or 3 years ago I have seen it used only once.
My own company Intranet only had a 'Home Page' item on it just
recently, advocating better use of the 'new improved' version of
Webex, I do think in the near term some companies will curtail
uneccessary business trips in favour of this tool.
Of course there will always be the need for face to face meetings
but
the days of an unproductive day trip 'jolly' are surely coming to
an
end.
I'll still have my day trips to London. But the big change is video
conferencing although not many people seem to like using it.
Of course they don't, it means they actually have to work for a
living,
doesn't it?

A bit cynical. Most people I know from work don't especially like
travelling, being away from home, getting up at 0430 for the first
flight etc etc etc. |

Let's try and get this right: AA operated year-round from July 91 to
October 94. EI then operated winter 1994/95. AA then used 757s on the

I've heard about it and all I can say is that they are known to be
interested in MAN (having applied previously for MAN-BOS and MAN-DTW),
so I would'nt rule it out completely. Might be a better route for a
small widebody rather than using a 757 - it would allow better cargo
capability which may make up for a lack of premium passengers.
Wouldn't be the 1st time they've operated at MAN...I'm old enough to
remember them operating a 2 weekly 747 Freighter service in the late
1970s/early 1980s...and what's even sadder, I even remember the
callsign: NW923!

Things are improving, destinations are increasing, losses have stabilised
but at the end of the day it isn't quite the comfort departure point
demanded by many passengers (and I am sure I will get no argument from
Doug
on that).
The CEO states
"The secret of our success has been that by maintaining a lower cost
structure than our rivals, we tend to attract no-frills airlines as that
is
what they are looking for in order to offer their passengers low fares."
From my experience this is a very accurate statement from the CEO.
The `lower cost structure` is evident. It is similar to comparing Lidl to
Tesco.. Both in the game of selling various merchandise to buyers - Lidl
are aiming at a lower common denominator than Tesco.
And for the record I buy in both and use both airports!

Agreed. It couldn't have been at GLA on Ryanair's terms. PIK fits their
business model perfectly and at the time of Ryanair setting up PIK had
nothing to lose. The only problem is now that there are 2+ million pax going
through the doors there seems to be little operating profit to re-invest and
it costs money to cater for ever increasing numbers.
