THE Government’s White Paper on air transport in the UK is correct to
identify the need to safeguard land at Edinburgh Airport for possible
runway expansion in future years (News, December 16).
It is also to be applauded for recognising the greater potential of
Edinburgh, rather than Glasgow, as the future national hub for air
travel in Scotland, and for resisting the usual political fix, which has
traditionally worked in the west of Scotland’s favour in matters of
transport infrastructure investment.
The Government must now prioritise the building of a heavy rail link to
Edinburgh Airport, together with improved road access, otherwise the
airport will very quickly become a victim of its own success.
It is already evident that the current terminal building at Edinburgh is
too small to cope with the growing numbers of passengers, and that any
reluctance by BAA to address this will have unfortunate consequences for
tourism locally and the Scottish economy.

You know the sad thing about the above posting is that if it was about GLA
and anyone dared post it in the edi newsgroup then we would be getting
reported to our relevant ISPs. Yet again this shows the double standards of
Joe.

This is true but not to worry. It seems the corrospondants that Joe chooses |
to post are as "parochial" as the ET and that they have no idea of the
current and future invetments being made by BAA in both airports, nor the
scale of the economic benefits GLA is producing. Nor do they realise that
EDI has experienced a brilliant growth period in recent years which does not
neccessarily mean will continue at the same rate. Thankfully those that have
a say will have a more balanced overall view of things.

You see the this is the problem Joe, you dont want too debate/discuse
anything. Anyone that disagreess with you is wrong and this includes any
airline that wants too start from GLA, we are ALL wrong in your eyes.
No one here treats the ET as a GLA bible. You really are sad.

I don't know how you work that out. You are the only one that uses it as
your premier point of reference. :-(
