Passed my instrument exam on 9 Oct and got my new plastic license in the
mail two weeks ago.

If you have the old paper license, this would be a great time to
accidentally lose or destroy it. The plastic card rocks. Has a 737 and
the Wright Flyer on the front, and the little FAA hologram, and the Wright
Brothers' faces on the back. Color is greenish.

The FAA did a good job with this one.

I think there are a couple different ones. My commercial ticket has a
nice pic. My CFI ticket has the tail of the Wright Flyer on top of the
face of one of the brothers. It look me a bit to figure out that he did
not have a birth defect.

Wanna see something really neat? Look close at the vertical and horizontal
lines of the flyer and the neck and shoulder lines of Wil and Orvy... it's
microprint from a speech Blakey gave about the 100th anniversary.

I had a student in the '70's who had a glider license
personally signed by Orville Wright. That was a *really
cool* "Wright Bros license."

Indeed it is! Met Bob Hoover one time and almost got the courage to ask
him to autograph the back inside cover of my logbook, but I chickened out
and he autographed his book instead.

Jim

I'm of two minds about this information: 1. Cute technology. 2. I
hope, I REALLY hope that they did this to make it difficult to
replicate for forgers, and not as some kind of flattery to Blakey.

If it is an anti forgery technology, do all FBO's have to buy a
microscope to verify that the entire speech is there?

Your PC's scanner suffices to make the micro text legible.

No, but if there's a question as to the authenticity, they could check with
a magnifying glass.

It also has the holo image as well. I have no idea how difficult or easy it
is to fake that.
