So, from the Southwest of Scotland it's motorway all the way (M74-MCool.
Quote:
From the west of Scotland it's easily accessible
From the North it's easily accesible.
It's accessible by Bus, by train (connection at Paisley) and has links

to destinations world wide.

How then, can EDI be classified as "Scotlands most accessible airport"?

Pandering to the 'natives' now Graham? You will be extremely popular in
here...

Here's some figures that back-up. "Scotland's most accessible airport"?

The Regional Airports Review looked at access to each airport expressed
as population against travel times.

The RASCO figures showed:

1-hour access time by road:
To Edinburgh Airport : 2,536m or 50.1% of the Scottish population
To Glasgow Airport : 1,982m or 39.2% of the Scottish population
To Prestwick Airport : 1,401m or 27.7% of the Scottish population

2-hour access by road:
To Edinburgh Airport : 4,01m or 79.2% of the Scottish population
To Glasgow Airport : 3,756m or 74.2% of the Scottish population
To Prestwick Airport : 3,407m or 67.3% of the Scottish population

Can you tell us the years these figures were generated Joe? Can you tell
us of a major motorway extension that has been completed since these
figures were generated? Can you tell us which airport was the most
accessible by rail in these out-dated figures Joe? Can you tell us how
many weekends has the Forth Road Bridge been virtually unusable for
passengers to EDI from north of the river since these outdate figures
were generated? If you can't I suggest you stop branding these figures
as being in anyway accurate - they are complete and utter balderdash re
the present day situation.

He'll come away with the usual RASCO figures, it's strange he only
quotes from surveys he agrees with isn't it, remember his opposition to
the FoAI report Wink
Indeed these days EDI is less accessible from the north, Fife
especially, and if travelling from Edinburgh itself leave plenty of
time between 7:30am and 10:00 am and between 15:00 to 18:30ish
weekdays.
Of course access from the west improved greatly with the M8 extension
to Hermiston Gait (did he oppose that motorway extension perchance?)
which (then) did away with the Newbridge Roundabout bottleneck but this
junction is once again getting busy.
Of course when the M74 extension is complete it should ease the
Kingston Bridge traffic giving a clear run for those east of Glasgow
city centre, but in the meantime I doubt it takes more than 8-10
minutes to get to GLA from the city centre at any time of day or night,

Current time from Stepps bypass to GLA is 15 mins (from new NADICS board
on the bypass - uses numberplate recognition).

It takes me 25 minutes from Grangemouth to the Crowwood Roundabout so
that would make Grangemouth to GLA in an easy 45 minutes. GLA is very
accessible from the the Central Belt as is EDI and PIK. Most would be
delighted having such choice on ones doorstep.

I thought it was great that I travelled from EDI to my house in Newton
Mearns via Taxi to Waverley, Train to Glasgow Queen St then Taxi home in
less than two hours. The other way going on the "JOE LOGIC" would have been
to fly from Norwich to Man then stay over night and fly from MAN to
GLA..........oh the joys of "JOE LOGIC".

I will continue to use which ever Central Belt airport is best for my travel
plans at the time. I will not listen to some person in Livingston trying to
force his RACIST bile on the newsgroup and try and split the country in
half.

I flew out from GLA on monday morning and came back on tuesday arternoon.
I'm staying at my parents home in NE Fife at the mo and hence startd my
journey from there. I would normally have gonve via Dundee, Perth Stirling
which is almost always congestion free, but I had to pick up a friend near
Glenrothes so I went via the Forth bridge and M8. Did it in 1h 50mins
including the stop to pick up my friend. Interesting to note that the only
congestion I encountered both ways was on the A8000, which I probably have
to have used to get to EDI if I'd been flying from there! No congestion on
M8/Kingston bridge - I raced the nadics sign coming into Glasgow on the M8
and beat it by 1 minute in getting to the airport;-)

To be fair though, getting to/from GLA on the M8 from the city centre can be
tedious at the very peak of rush hour, but trying to reach EDI at these
times is just as bad, if not worse.

I live in Dumfries and can assure you both Gla and P ik are much more
accessable than Edi. which has limited access by Motorway where as
going to Gla has M74 then M8, motorway 90% of the way. As I sometimes
use the A76 via Kilmarnock the M77 is not just a benefit to PIK but
takes about 20 minutes off the journey that way to GLA .Then onto M8 at
Ibrox. Good work Ian.
