Air Scotland is advertising a day trip to Athens, departing 1st October
2003. £249 plus taxes.

Pity it's not a regular service. I imagine Athens needs more than a day!

My colleague went to Athens for the day. He was actually going to
see Hibs play AEK but the match was cancelled!

They might possibly see how the bookings go and if they go well
operate a more regular service I imagine Glasgow-Athens could be a
winner

Who thinks 249 plus taxes is cheap?

I would certainly use this if it was a regular service. My girlfriend has
managed to get a great deal with BA from LHR return for £110 leaving on 20
Dec and returning 5 Jan. When we went to ATH from EDI in May we got it for
£203. Not a bad price.

There is a sizeable Greek population, especially students who study in
Scotland.

Yes, I was thinking it wasn't exactly inexpensive for a day trip. And
it must take (what?) three to four hours to get there? Eight hour
round trip doesn't leave you much time to see the sights.

Jon wouldn't use Air Scotland if they paid him. :-(

It is a bit odd. Perhaps the Air Holland aircraft is required for a rotation
out of Athens that day. A football charter or something like that. It would
make sense to sell the seats from GLA and back if there's any takers.

It's a fair hike up to the Acropolis I can tell you. And it was covered in
scoffolding when I got there!

There is also a huge demand of Scottish people going to grease on there holidays

In fact Rangers are playing Panathinaikos in Athens that day. So there we
have it.
