LAHORE: Lahore and Scottish town of Glasgow were declared twin cities
at a ceremony held at Jinnah Hall here Tuesday evening.

Hanzala Malik, Chairman Development Committee of Glasgow and leader of
the visiting delegation and Nazim City District Government Lahore, Mian
Amir Mahmood signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect.

The signing ceremony was attended among others by T. Harrigan, A.
Ramsay, Shaukat Butt, S. Inch, Ian Galbraith, G. Peterson, A.B. Nelson,
A. McCluskey, Neil Galbraith and Ale Malik and senior officials of
Lahore District government.

Mayor of Lahore

Speaking on the occasion, City District government Nazim, Mian Amir
Mahmood hoped that the English town of Glasgow and Punjab capital would
cooperate with each other in the process of development besides
cultural exchanges.

"Lahore has been declared twin of different world cities in the past.
But it remained restricted to signing ceremonies and installation of
plaques," he regretted.

He said that the city governments of both Glasgow and Lahore would
cooperate with each other especially in the training of officials from
police, firebrigade, solid waste management and environment," Mian Amir
said.

Hanzala Malik

Leader of Glasgow delegation Hanzala Malik said that people of Pakistan
were talented and had enough knowledge about the latest technology.

"We will seek cooperation from Pakistan whenever and whereever needed,"
he added.

He said that the school adoption by NGOs scheme will be followed in
Glasgow as it was a best form of public-private partnership.●

So Glasgow is now Lahore's 'twin', surely now we will get a direct
service from PIA !!!!

I'm sure people in Glasgow will be happy to be twinned with such an
important Indian town ;-)

LOL!

I was at a "festival of culture" or some such in Dublin a few months
ago. The MC, who had chosen a "zany" theme for his outlook and
announcements, at one stage introduced some "wonderful Indian dancers"
only to issue a contrite "sorry, Pakistani" correction at the end of
their turn. How we laughed.
