Glasgow Airport's Terminal 2 breaks through million mark

BAA Press Release 13/12/04

Passenger numbers at Glasgow Airport's new second terminal, T2, have broken
through the one million mark, just eight months after the £12 million
facility opened to the travelling public.

Figures released by Glasgow Airport show that between April 6, when T2
first opened, and the end of November, T2 handled 1,030,888 departing
passengers.

The achievement puts T2 on course to reach its target of 1.5 million
passengers within its first year.

Home to low cost carriers easyJet, MyTravel and Thomas Cook, T2 provides 24
check-in desks and a state of the art baggage screening system, the most
sophisticated of its kind in the world.

Work on the final stage of the £12 million development ? a covered walkway
linking T2 to the main terminal ? will begin after Christmas. Outdoor
seating areas will also be created, and a new convenience store will be
constructed within the main terminal, as part of the re-development.

Glasgow Airport is the first major airport in Scotland to develop a second
terminal.

Managing Director Stephen Baxter said: "The airport's success this year
owes a great deal to T2, and the extra capacity it provides. The additional
check-in space has proved invaluable, particularly during the busy summer
months. As passenger numbers continue to rise we expect T2 to play a vital
role in the future growth of the airport."

The success of T2 is just one of the highlights of a record breaking year
for Glasgow Airport, with passenger numbers at an all time high of 8.5
million, and the launch of 25 new services, including Dubai, Philadelphia,
Toronto, Prague, Geneva and Barcelona. In July, Glasgow Airport became the
first in Scotland to handle a million passengers in a single month.
