Well, that'd be nice, but the profile for the guy that said this claims he
only joined 12 days ago, and he's a bit coy with the rest of his info, so no
offence, but I'll wait until it's confirmed ;-)

They have 21 777's at the moment and 30 more to be delivered before 2007.
Perhaps the one the other day was a suitability test? Mind you the
series-300's are MUCH bigger with 362 seats!

True, but if I were in his position I too would be coy incase EK would
out. He said he was fed up with people spreading wrong rumours about
EK and thought he'd post the truth seeing as other EK workers had no
hesitations in providing information.

Well, whether it's right or wrong, it seems to me that the aircraft type is
rather less important than the fact of the route's existence in the first
place. I'm sure an Emirates A330 is just as comfortable from a passenger
point of view as the 777.
A second daily A330 would seem to be a better idea ... bit more flexibility
that way.

Could the possible upgrade be more to do with cargo, rather than pax?

It doesn't seem more sensible to EK - you keep telling us they can't use
EDI because of lack of facilities. It surely wouldn't be a good idea to
route passengers to an airport that they regard as unsuitable when there is
an ideal one an hour along the road that is already providing them with
excellent load factors.

|
Cargo can generate more revenue than pax so it's a vital consideration. From
the figures EK are moving a lot of cargo.
From the outset EK were talking about the 777 coming to Scotland so we
shouldn't be so surprised.
The service is so popular that it's hard to get the inexpensive seats
therefore some pax might still be lost to indirect competitors. My sister is
coming home from Bahrain for xmas. I really wanted her to use EK via DXB but
of course the flights around xmas time are well booked. Being self employed
she has flexibility and has booked a great deal with KLM in early December.

Agreed. But I am merely pointing out his conflicting opinion. One minute he
is whining because EK claim they chose GLA before EDI because of facilities
then in the next breath he is telling us that them flying from EDI is a
distinct possibility. He has a different stance for every thread.

I know Jim. I wasn't correcting you. That "either or" was directed at Joe
who only wants what GLA has for some unknown reason.
I know you know the airline knows what it's doing.
