|

Hi Folks,
Well it was a first for me today, a trip from GLA to MAN with BA.
Departed at 08.45 right on time and arrived at 09.30. Embr 150 (nice little
Jet, plenty of leg room)( 3/4s full)
Return flight departed at 17.30 and arrived at 18.30. Plane was a Dash 8-300
so took a bit longer too get back to GLA.
It was a delight too fly BA again. This is the first time in over a year.
The girl at the ticket desk checked me in (no bags) and also issued me with
my boarding pass for the return trip. Seats allocated, breakfast (which I
forgot about and had just been too Burger King).
Lots of leg room in both planes compared to the standard Easyjet/Ryanair,
pack them in planes.
All in all a very enjoyable day and a nice pleasant trip.
Now then, I wonder what my next trip will be???????
So far this year: East Midlands fm GLA Easyjet
Luton fm GLA Easyjet
Dublin fm PIK Ryanair
Bournemouth fm PIK Ryanair
Manchester fm GLA BA
I am looking at a few more trips this year and Stanstead could be on the
cards as well as Heathrow and also somewhere in Europe (then again I did
visit 5 European countries during my 16 day holiday this year but by car and
ferry).
regards John

Those ERJ145s are indeed excellent. Nippy wee things, nice steep climb,
quite comfortable, though not much in the way of overhead storage. A
civilised way to get about, IMO. The faster boarding and disembarkation
times compared to the 737/A320 is also a pleasant advantage!

Well I would have too agree with you. Nice leather seats (or was it |
vinyl??). I only had a folder and my jacket so not a problem for me for the
storage but I know what you mean. Had a good window seat. The last time I
was on one was flying to Belfast International Airport a few years ago. I
did feel sorry for one of the flight crew, he was just a bit too tall for
this type of aircraft.

And very civilised. Definately a winner for short haul and domestic

A pity we don't see more of them at Scottish airports serving lots more in
the way of Euro destinations. GLA could use some links to Paris, Brussels,
Geneva etc. Perhaps BA or bmi regional might oblige?

I was reading the Loganair history and it seems to me it wouldn't be a mad |
idea if they did a 'Duo' at GLA. All they need to do is rustle up 3 or 4
Jungle Jets and the market is there. I'm not talking about conquering
Europe, just providing much needed links to a few of the top European
cities. Paris, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Milan, Madrid in that order - for a
start.
The grants are there, the licences and 'know how' and BAA would be bending
over backwards to do a deal and ward off recent criticism.
I wonder what's Scott Griers email address?

I'm not sure Loganair have the will/ambition for something like that.
Aside from occasional (short-lived IIRC) forays further afield, they seem
content to stick to their 'core' Highlands & Islands services.
The only jets I can recall Loganair operating were a a pair of BAe 146's
in the late '80's (?); if memory serves they operated to the Channel
Islands. Did they ever operate regular services to mainland Europe?

I know but it's a pity. There are ideally placed to do a 'Duo' at GLA. In
co-operation with BA a nice small Euro operation with all the financial
backing they'd get would surely work?
|
I'm sure it would work, I just can't see who'll grasp the opportunity.
Compared to Duo, Loganair have neither the a/c nor the experience (I can't
see BA co-operating, they're happy to route Scottish pax through
MAN/BHX/LON)
I haven't seen anything to suggest that, had not AP Moeller put Maersk Air
Ltd up for sale, Maersk Air Ltd would still be a BA franchise carrier and
still operating solely out of BHX.

Not that I know of but believe it or not I saw one in Plama in about 1986.
It was doing a charter fronm Manchester I believe.
|
A quick search of airliners.net had a shot of one at Salzburg - probably a
charter- the rest seemed to be UK/Channel Islands (also a shot of a
Loganair BAC 1-11 which I'd forgotten about).
