A David Leask ET article tonight suggest PIA wil be starting GLA-Karachi
flights next year? No other sign of the flights starting on any of the other
News Sites, and, no link to the article?

Hmm...there have been mutterings recently about PIA. I know that they were
looking at something. They already have a booking office in Glasgow.

Yes, but David Leask seems to think Karachi is the destination?

Yeh Only joking.
The report doesn't make it clear which airport in Pakistan. Looking at the
PIA schedules it will almost certainly be KHI via ISB and/or LHE. They only
offer low frequencies on many European routes and they are always
combinations finishing at KHI.
JFK is served via MAN and ORD is served via BHX. They are adding Houston so
I would not be at all surprised if they flew KHI-ISB-GLA-IAH or even
KHI-ISB-OSL-GLA-IAH. It would be great if they had the pax rights for
GLA-OSL and IAH!
They are no stranger to these multi-sector flights. I would only expect 2-3
flights per week.

Jon,you have also put PIK instead of PIA in a title of another
thread.Smile)
Clive,

do you think tm wilson was maybe trying to get them to come to PIK and
after they were announced he said where they would operate from
Glasgow in a sigh of dissapointment.Smile)

Dont know Kris, but Mr Wilson does a very good job at PIK, it has too be
said. No doubt in for a big bonus, thats if they actually have any money
left over after giving a lot of discounts.

I still think that airlines will have too seriously think twice about
starting EU routes from PIK due to Ryanair and their expansion of the site.
I am just waiting for the day when Easyjet have the balls too go head too
head with Ryanair and have more EU flights from GLA.

Ryanair has proven that there is certainly demand for lo-cost flights and I
certainly use them too full advantage when going on business trips (who
would not when saving a lot of money).

They certainly are no strager to multi-sectors!

I don't know where it was, but I remeber reading something reasonably
recently that sid that most Pakistanis in Scotland originate from the
area around Lahore, so mybe this will be the most likely primary
destination, although as you say most flights seem to end up in
Karachi at some point!

As far as IAH goes, I think it said in one of the articles that that
wouldn't start till June which doesn't tie-in with the GLA start date.
I think PIA are getting at least one 777LR, so one of their US routes
might go non-stop??? - maybe IAH?

As far as pax rights for Euro sectors go, I think when they started
their BHX ops they flew via CPH, but I don't think they had pax rights
for BHX-CPH?

I guess we'll have to wait and see. Here's hoping for a 747!!!:)

Dunno about the Euro sectors but they do have the rights for UK-USA. Colin
would know about the BHX-CPH flights.

Well it would depend if it's going on to the US. Otherwise it'll be the
A310.

I think if airlines were to serve the same EU-destinations but to the
MAIN airports at the same price from Prestwick Ryanair would suffer
big time.

Here is what one chap on Airliners.net thinks:

"PIA is too starting GLA from April from KHI via LHE and ISB (once a week
each)...from KHI twice a week...most likely flights will be nonstop using A
310-300s. However no official route has been released but my guess is :

KHI-LHE-GLA 1x weekly A 313
KHI-ISB-GLA 1x weekly A 313"
