The Mrs was over in New York for a long weekend, so a quick second hand
summary.

Flights both ways were very busy and bang on time. The food was fine,
she said. The in flight entertainment was poor, and she was glad MP3
players were allowed on board.

The lowpoint of the weekend was after arrival back in Glasgow. A few
bags appeared fairly quickly, followed by a 45 minute wait for the
remainder of the luggage, at a time when arrivals was very quiet. I'm
presuming the bags that appeared quickly were business class luggage?

Everyone was very irritated, and a few of the substantial number of US
tourists on board were quite vociferous in their displeasure.

I'm pretty sure I've seen other criticism of the baggage handling on
here recently? Is it a facilities/equipment issue, or do they just not
put enough manpower on duty?

On our recent return from EWR we had to wait about 15 to 20 for
baggage.

I wish GLA was as efficient as EWR where our bags were on the carousel
as we arrived.

g
Could be that they were being given the "once-over" by security
sniffer dogs if there has been a heads-up from EWR.

Possibly Elizabeth. However we had the same delay, or shambles,
returning from ORD in May. This, combined with everyone else's posts on
the subject points towards it being a GLA problem.

GLA is without a doubt one of the worst airports in the world for
reclaiming your baggage. By far the longest waits I have had for bags
have all been at GLA.

I have found them to be a bit slow this year. However on return from
Alicante yesterday, the bags were through by the time the wife had done
her toilet stop. Maybe 5 minutes. I was surprised at this as we arrived
just after the Emirates 777 and expected things would be slower.

I have found it very variable in both International arrivals and
Domestic. Most recently hellish long waits in both, sorry to say. In the
order of 30 mins in domestic and 45 mins in International (and that was
from Amsterdam!). The excuse used at the moment is the increased volume
of baggage due to the rules. I suppose this should be easing now.

This one doesn't wash with me. There are no different baggage rules
when checking in at Schipol or Alicante etc. I noticed the baggage
waits were high prior to the changes in rules.

It's either lack of man power / equipment or the bags are being scanned
on arrival.

I can see that Continental and US baggage will be slower if they are
using 757 instead of the 767. I think the baggage on the 757's will be
loaded "mandraulically" where as the 767 uses containers, so less man
power required.

The back page of The Sun of all places highlighted the problem the other
day. Apparently the Molde team had to wait 90 mins for their bags, as long
as the flight itself according to a quote. That's no good.

Must be a few Rangers supporters work in baggage handling!! After all
the team needs as much help as it can get!!
