In the 10 months (9 full months + 21 days in April) since the start of the
Emirates GLA-DXB flight we have seen steady growth which hopefully in the
future will lead to a 2nd daily flight giving better connection times to
certain Australasian destinations.

Some stats so far -

April 2004 - 5,289 pax - 126 pax per flight - 45% Load Factor
May 2004 - 6,547 pax - 105 pax per flight - 37% Load Factor
June 2004 - 9,435 pax - 157 pax per flight - 56% Load Factor
July 2004 - 14,168 pax - 228 pax per flight - 82% Load Factor
Aug 2004 - 13,967 pax - 225 pax per flight - 81% Load Factor
Sept 2004 - 11,967 pax - 199 pax per flight -71% Load Factor
Oct 2004 - 12,977 pax - 209 pax per flight - 75% Load Factor
Nov 2004 - 11,812 pax - 197 pax per flight - 71% Load Factor
Dec 2004 - 12,416 pax - 200 pax per flight - 72% Load Factor
Jan 2005 - 14,923 pax - 240 pax per flight - 86% Load Factor

I'm not one for comparisons, but in BHX's first full year of EK ops the pax
total for 2001 was 122,208 pax, in the 9 full months since the GLA-DXB route
started GLA is averaging 12,023 pax per month, so if the trend continues GLA
looks on course to handle 144,000 pax for the first full 12 months of
operation.

Very good indeed considering the airline said they were hoping to attract
100,000 pax per year (and 3500 tonnes of freight).

www.asiatraveltips.com/travelnews04/183Emirates.shtml

Some interesting quotes here about the catchment area they are serving with
this flight and the LHR slog which Scots can now bypass.

I thought EK intended to carry 150,000 pax in their first 12 months?
Heres hoping for some 90%+ load factors during the Summer months
leading up to the arrival of the 777.

Perhaps an announcement regarding QR during the Summer?

Troll bait? If this were EDI-orientated in the EDI newsgroup, you would have
a posse at your throat...why aren't the posse doing likewise here.?

Yes other reports said 150,000. On target anyway :-)

Dunno what's happening with that.

To get 150,000 would be excellent; can't remember our 1st year of daily
non-stop services after they began operating to MAN in 1989 - it's
either 1999 with 132,000 pax or 2000 with 169,000 pax.

Here's hoping for 150k and then some more steady year on year growth.

QR or EY would be just fine.

Think I'd prefer QR though. They offer better connections than EY right now.

Cheers

QR currently serve 56 destinations worldwide, they say that by the end
of 2005 they will serve atleast 60, so it seems GLA could be a
possibility going by the rumours.

They also seem to follow EK into markets. Wherever EK go, QR tend to
turn up a year or two later.
