|
|
The provsional figures from the CAA for international routes in April
have now appeared on thier website. Over 5,000 passengers flew on
Emirates after they started operations on 10th April.
Below is a comparison of the UK-DXB services (no doubt the layout will
be all over the place) :
FROM 2004 2003 Change Max Load
Capacity factor
HEATHROW 108489 61584 +76.16% ?? ??
MANCHESTER 27066 15742 +71.93% 34200 79.14%
GATWICK 34965 25096 +39.32% ?? ??
BIRMINGHAM 15518 13547 +14.55% 21180 73.27%
GLASGOW 5289 0 New!! 12540 42.18%
I don't know the capacity or frequency of the LHR + LGW services so I
am unable to compute either the maximum number of seats available nor
the load factor. Consequently, it can be seen the introduction of the
GLA service has not impacted on any of the services, but has helped
increase the general UK-DXB market.
(You may want to copy this into Wordpad/Notepad/Word/whatever word
proceessing program you use and use courier font to see the columns
lined up correctly).

Excellent figures and they say they are making a profit from GLA already.
Must be a lucrative route!

Fine here using Gravity using Courier New but any fixed space font should
display it correctly.
Thanks for the info David.

Does that mean the load factor is only 42 % ? if so thats not very good.

I know nothing about such things but IMO for a completely new service (and
one they claim to be making a profit on already) then I think it is quite
impressive.

I would think that 42% is probably accurate for the first few weeks of
operation. When they say they are making a profit I doubt that means they
are covering all costs that month. More likely they are predicting a profit
with the sales and yields later this year.
It certainly has excellent potential.

I would profer the equivalent starts for MAN and BHX for comparison
but it would be an extremely useless exercise! We started with a 2
weekly A310 service via Frankfurt in November 1990 and BHX started
mid/late December 2000 (haven't got the exact date to hand).
But stretching my memory back to 1990, I think we were generally half
full as well; the good news is that Emirates generally tends to stick
with routes enabling them to mature at their own leisure.

Maybe there is less competition in Central Scotland for EK? I still think
it is a good start for central Scotland and I can't wait to use the
service. EK seem well pleased so far.

I make it:
GLASGOW 5289 0 New!! 11400 46.4%
(40 flights in April x 285 seats)
Not as good as I expected but I suppose it's early doors.
Whereas Continental did this in April:
Possible 10440 actual 9820 = 94%. Consistantly excellent.

Well some idiot got it starting a day early and letting April have a
31st day (only realised today when I looked at my watch and it was
proudly stating 20th May)

Much better than the Qatar beginnings at MAN though!
