Sounds OK. I hope it'll be non-stop on the MAN-CPT leg, although I got the
impression from the other thread this might be pushing it a bit. If it's
2-stop via MAN and somewhere else GSM might struggle (unless they're very
cheap!).
I wonder if they'll get RDF? I guess it'll not be year-round, so that's how
they'll squirm out of that one.

That would make perfect sense otherwise the aircraft would be hanging around
MAN a lot of the time. It also allows for 1 weekly GLA-SFB on a Friday - Sat
AM if they only have one aircraft which will be GLA based. The weekly
schedule for the 767 would be:
MON GLA-MAN-CPT
TUE CPT-MAN-GLA
WED GLA-MAN-CPT
THU CPT-MAN-GLA
FRI GLA-SFB-GLA (Sat AM)
SAT GLA-MAN-CPT
SUN CPT-MAN-GLA
and no concerns about runway/range restrictions out of GLA.

I was thinking along similar lines to you. However GLA - SFB is still
on sale daily for November.
I have been checking GMS site for reduction on these flights, none so
far.
(Incidently. IMHO, GLA - SFB flights are scheduled right through the
Hurricane season, probably the worst times to go to Florida)
You are assuming that GSM will stick with the one aircraft. I have a
feeling this is what will happen.
I think CPT is a fantastic destiination for GSM, potentially the Prague
of Longhaul. I am surprised CPT has come before Weat coast US
destinations and Canada. I don't think Air Transat can continue to
compete with Zoom and TCX. CPT is however a very good North Hemisphere
winter destination.
I don't think the 763-ER is a good choice of aircraft to operate out of
GLA or EDI for max range longhaul.
If it has GE CF6-80C2B7F or Pratt & Whitney PW4062 engines it would
reduce the runway requirements and maybe make it useable for long
sectors. ( I don't think GSM aircraft are fitted with the more
powerful engines, they have the 2.0 instead of the V6!!)
GSM will not get good utilisation out of these aircraft if they fly
GLA-MAN-CPT-MAN-GLA.
With single drops and good thought put into timings they could have
added extra sectors to East coast USA. No chance with a double drop at
MAN and GLA. The plane will be left sitting on the tarmac overnight
unless it is utilised overnight to European destinations.
Questions I have.
Will GSM have one longhaul aircraft for Winter 2006?
Are there no A330-200 available, are they too large?
Are there no 762-ER's available, are they too small?
What is the best aircraft available for non stop CPT range from GLA?
I would be very interested to hear other peoples thoughts and ideas.

Yes but we'll be looking out for additional long range aircraft by summer 07
I should think.
GSM are already expanding extremely fast and it might be wise to get the
first long haul winter off to a start with the one aircraft and build on
that thereafter.

TCX don't go the YVR and YYC. Only Globespan (Air Transat) and Zoom do from
GLA. Those flights are always full and far from TS feeling the pinch there
is actually room for more IMO. I don't really want GSM to take over the Air
Transat flights which Globespan buy seats on as it risks GSM spreading
themselves all over the UK instead of concentrating on us! Keep that
arrangement as it is and give Scotland some more new direct destinations.
I'd fancy GLA-BOS-LAX would be popular and there would be no range issues
from our runway.

Only 3 nights a week on the ground at GLA between about 2000 and 1200
according to my calculations. It's all go the rest of the week and remember
the crews will be GLA based. No point in termninating the CPT flight at MAN
and positioning empty back to GLA when they could be selling South Africa to
Scots on the same flights.

I'm not sure any current aircraft could do GLA-CPT non stop without
restrictions. Sharing with MAN is not unusual (Zoom to YVR and YYC for
example) and it would solve the runway issue and more than double the
market. 'Tis a great idea IMO.

Thanks for your reply.
I was half pissed when I came in last night, spelling mistakes worse
than ever.
I don't think it's very fair of GSM to be selling seats on flights they
know they are not going to operate.
Leasing just one aircraft backs up what Tam Dalrymple said about the
high costs of leasing as opposed to buying.
With respect to AIr Transat, I was only thinking of YYZ. and not YVR or
YYC.
I can't see GLA-BOS-LAX being allowed to happen. It is also around 1000
Km added to the direct GLA-LAX.
Their choice of the 763-ER reduces their options for operating longhaul
from Scotland due to the runway constraints.
I would agree that CPT via MAN is a fantastic destination. There must
be scope for LAX and SFO on a similar routing but maybe coming direct
back to GLA.
I think either the A330-200 or a 762-ER would be capable of CPT direct
form GLA. However the A330 might be just a bit too hard to fill, 762-ER
maybe too small? I'm thinking Daddy bear, Mummy bear and Baby bear
here but i'm not sure which one is just right!!

Cant see GLA-CPT ever being direct either from a operational or pax demand |
point of view.
Double drops all round me feels.

Unfortunately, GLA-CPT cant be done non-stop due runway length. |

GSM have an advert in the Sunday Mail today.
Includes flights and holidays direct from MAN to CPT.
Why advertise flights from MAN in a Scottish Paper if they intend to
fly from Scotland?

Not true. You should qualify your statement.
Same applies to PIK-CPT. Not possible with a fully loaded B777-300 due
to short runway!!
Same applies to some B767 variants depending on engine choice.
