Trip to Amsterdam with easyJet for the weekend from GLA.
Checked our bags in then up to the old International Pier for the flight to
the 'Dam.
Quickly through the boarding card check then baggage check then onto the old
International Pier, a look over to the right and there was the sight of
Terminal 2, quite well on with this and I don't see any problems with this
being opened in May, also noted were concrete blocks blocking the entrance
to the BAW Cargo building and the Servisair sheds so I assume the 4 Lo-Co
Stands are going in this area.
Then it was off along the pier to Gate 5 and glancing over to the BAW hangar
there were 2 737's sitting outside, one had no engines and the other one had
been repainted all white.
Boarded and departed on time and there was only a handfull of empty seats.
Arriving back at GLA this afternoon (flight full) I could see no sign of any
work being done re new Stands near the Control Tower
And that's it, I know you were all eagerly looking forward to a blow by blow
account of my AMS trip but after being out socialising over there until the
bars shut at 3am on Sat and Sun mornings I can't be arsed typing any more,
I'm goosed....

You actually travelled from Fife - bypassing nearby EDI - and went to
faraway GLA for
a flight that's available twice daily from EDI, incurring car parking
charges and surface travel times.?

The flight cheaper from GLA was it? No demand so you got a special deal.?

Does Clive know you are side-stepping convenient EDI in order to boost
GLA figures.?

Or could it be that you don't actually know where he currently resides?
You've had an awful lot of milage out of this Fife business much to my
amusement.

Hey Joe What's so funny about that??

We are all interested in planes here, why would we be here! I'm sure Blimpie
spent a few hours watching or photographing. I know I would... Just wanted
to here what he saw.

I was there recently and admit to popping up to the spectators terrace for
half an hour but only because I had to wait for my brothers arriving from
EDI. If they were there first we would have headed straight into town on my
arrival. To be honest if you've seen 1 KLM plane you've seen em all but I do
like to observe the well oiled goings on at an exemplary international
airport. Particularly in AMS's case the hub and spoke business of hundreds
of 737's from all over Europe feeding the bigger planes on long haul routes.

Extremely unfortunately I'm missing your original post and reading this via
CAB's post as it seems BT are treating you as SPAM some of the time..
Oh, and mind your own business, you're not replying to me remember..

<groan> I'm NOT a plane spotter.
Anyway, now that I've got my second wind I'll regale you further, AMS was as
usual very busy both days, en-route the weather from GLA was excellent all
the way to Amsterdam but we were warned about strong gusty winds at AMS for
our arrival, pilot wasn't sure of our arrival runway during his brief but
said depending on which runway was in use it could add 10 mins to our sector
and it did but I wasn't complaining.
Seemed to do a tour of the Dutch Bulbfields into AMS but eventualy we made
an approach and bouncy bouncy landing on r/w 01R, turning off the r/w it
looked very busy with lots of a/c being pushed back/taxying, for departure,
seen an EVA Air 747, Cathay Pacific A340, Malaysian 747, Northwest A330 and
an Iran Air A310 on stand as we taxied in.
Straight off the aircraft a flash of the passports and we were in Baggage
Reclaim and picking up our bags less than 10 mins after stepping off the
737.
Then as you'll know it's buy a ticket for Centraal and down the escalator
and we were walking up the Daamrak to our hotel (via a peek into Teasers) 35
mins after landing at AMS.
On the way back we pushed back and taxied on time but I thought we were
going to taxy all the way back to GLA as the 737 seemed to take for ever to
reach r/w 01L via numerous taxyways and 4th in line behind 2 Transavia 737's
and an EVA Air 747 which we eventually skipped to depart in front of.
Noticed *lots* of spotters/photographers whilst taxying for departure at AMS
(I reckon there was well over 100) and they were standing at every vantage
point around the airport (a couple behind were laughing at the 'anoraks' as
they called them)
Several areas had excellent unobstructed views for taking pics due to there
being no fence between where they were parked/standing due to a
canal/drainage ditch being between them and the runways so no need for bolt
cutters over there JC.
Flight back was mostly cloudy with an arrival on 23 at GLA and after
disembarking it was a coach to the International Arrivals and once again out
the terminal within 15 mins of landing.

The term originally applied to train spotters I think. So what
do we call plane spotters? Flying jackets?
