GLA 21 years ago this month had the following summer charters -

Aeroflot - Fortnightly flights by Tu-154 to Moscow and Leningrad.
Air Malta had twice weekly flights to Malta by 737.
Aviaco had 11 flights a week to the usual Spanish culprits using DC-9's,
DC-8's and Iberia 727's.
Britannia had 80 flights a week by 737 to various European resorts and
strangely Jersey.
Aviogenex had a weekly flight to Split by Tu-134.
Balkan had fortnightly flights to Varna & Bourgas by Tu-154.
BCal had a weekly flight by DC-10 to Palma & Ibeezza, I had the pleasure to
fly to PMI on one of the DC-10's, my first flight from GLA in a widebody.
British Island Airways had a weekly flight to Ajaccio by Bac 1-11.
Dan-Dare had a weekly flight to Jersey by HS-748.
Inex-Adria had a weekly flight to Pula by DC-9.
JAT had a weekly flight to Pula by DC-9, I'm sure later on that the JAT
flights were scheduled?
Monarch had 14 flights by 737.
Orion had 8 weekly flights to Spain.
Spantax had a weekly Palma flight by DC-8 (anybody remember the CV-990
screamers?).
TAROM had a weekly Constanta flight by Bac 1-11 (anybody remember the
Tu-154's and 707's?).
Tunis Air had a weekly flight to Tunis.

Aaahh, memories ;-)

Ah yes. Just before the common Iberia A300's to PMI (my first GLA widebody
flight) and the regular 747's to TFS?

Wasn't it Monastir? 737's I recall.

Once weekly flights, fortnightly flights? Makes you realise just how
much air travel demand has expanded in the last 21 years and how much
more accessible it is to the masses.

21 years ago I recall taking the bus from Paisley Cross to the airport
to buy my copy of Civil Aircraft Markings 1983, with a Lufthansa 732
on the cover as I recall ? Fond memories of all those airlines already
mentioned, Inex-Adria, Aviaco, Spantax etc. I'm trying to recall when
the Iberia 747 holiday service started ? Was that 84 or 85 perhaps ?

And as for that Britannia 732 service to Jersey... well oddly enough
it's still the only Britannia flight I've taken to this day.

Dunno. But I will say that their market research must have been rather
simplistic. I can see no logical reason why Fife, with anly a small
portion of Central Belt population, should have such a large sway
on Aviogenex flights. Perhaps Dunfermline and Dubrovnik sould similar?
