GIRONA AIRPORT - MONDAY 23RD OCTOBER
Ryanair confirms that despite intimidation and harassment by union members
(who do not work for Ryanair), all of our handling staff have reported for
work in Girona this afternoon.
As a result, checked in baggage can now be accepted for flights to and from
Girona this afternoon.
Ryanair, which abides by all applicable Spanish Labour Laws and the
collective agreement, regrets that our passengers and staff have been
subjected to unjustified and unlawful harassment and intimidation.
Ryanair provides low fares and choice, which never existed before, to
Spanish consumers and visitors. Ryanair services to Girona generate over
¤500,000,000 to the local economy and support over 4,000 Catalan jobs. Our
employees are free to join any union, however they must also be equally
free to go about their work without harassment or intimidation from the
unions.
Now that the union has failed on three occasions to halt Ryanair operations
or to persuade a majority of staff to support their actions, they should go
home and turn their attention to the inefficient practices in the high fare
airlines, such as Iberia, who actually employ them.
