Y'All.
I'm finding that I am no longer able to keep up with my web site.
I'm looking for ideas, offers and/or suggestions as to how to
keep it available to the group.

Gene, your website is a major contribution to some of the informational
'wealth' that can be found on the WWW! :0)
Perhaps you could tell us (or email me privately if you prefer from my
website ((just be sure to put, BAYAREAPILOT in the subject line so it gets
past my new spam filter))), what aspect of your site is giving you the most
workload and collectively we might have a way of significantly lessening the
burden?
Take care!

Cecil,
It would be great if you and/or other instructors would be able to keep
the content of Gene's site active.
Gene, the knowledge available on your site would be a terrible loss.
Please consider an offer from Cecil to or others to host your material. |

Gene's information on flying is timeless. It doesn't need constant
updating (think "Stick and Rudder"), but it does need a home.
How big are the files?

There is a section about WWII with a chart of Nagasaki along with the
radar bombardment simulator operations manual that could be deleted.
These have rather massive pictures. There are some IFR WWII diagrams of
training patterns otherwise the site is words only. At the time I had no
idea because I didn't fit into the "Need to Know" criteria.
I believe the site costs me $24.50 a month but I haven't been able to figure
out how the system works. I may have paid well in advance. Can't remember.
All I need to do is give Cecil the passwords and he can be off and running.

Gene,
Have you tried hosting with dot5hosting.com? They are well-reviewed and I
eventually moved my business website to host with them as well. I'm saving
LOTS of money within a year (I pay about $60/ year ((prepaid))). Generous
webspace, bandwidth and excellent control console for building reports, etc.
It is FrontPage compatible as well. I'm not affiliated with them as
anything but a customer and have just been exceptionally pleased with the
up-time with their webhosting services.
Check them out: www.dot5hosting.com

Looked at my post and realized I forgot to add.... Of course, I'll be more
than glad to help out anyway I can, but at first glance I was thinking you
were paying a lot for hosting space for your site as well as your new
additions.
Let me know what ya need either way

Roger, et al,
I think I will let Cecil take it and run with it for a while. Depending on
your typing and computer skills it can take considerable time and more
importantly editing.

Yur getting too old when it's your back that's stiff when you get up
in the morning.
As to keeping up the web site why not get it the way you want it and
leave it more or less as a reference. You have a lot of good stuff
there.

Good Lord! I pay over $40 for web access (5 meg through cable) and
another $40 something for web hosting, mail hosing and a bunch of
other stuff.
When I was on ISDN and then DSL with a dedicated IP, LAN on demand,
web hosting, and *stuff* it was running over $200 a month.
Many if not most web site hosting have traffic (band width limits) and
charge appropriately. So with Gene's site there may be some traffic
limitations. At least I'd expect to see it fairly busy.

Change a site that uses Front Page for editing to manual and it'll
take about 10 to 20% of the total space it was taking. I still
create pages manually and then use FP for editing. Then go in and
find, delete the extra stuff. FP will create an extra 5 to 10 pages
of definitions for every document it creates. Every time you hit a
<CR) it creates a new paragraph and it formats every line which
usually means up to 3 to 5 lines of formatting each line in the page.
Not that I dislike FP mine you< ) It does take a lot of work out of
composing HTML and CGI.

The site has been mirrored at http://whitts.alioth.net for a good couple
of years too (although that may need updating).
