I had just come back from flying the Arrow III, working on some of the
'boutique landing demonstrations for my CFI checkride which I taught to my
invisible student <g> in the left seat and saw my CFI while I was waiting to
get my plane checked-in at the front desk.

I told him what I had been doing last week (both in the Arrow III and the
C-172) and he said we should think about flying together once in each
plane,,, one more time. He also said that I should start thinking about a
date so that I could call the FSDO to set-up my checkride.

Although it's not like I *needed* to get yet another book to read, but I
recently started reading the Kershner book for Flight Instructors (4th
edition I think) and am really enjoying it as it is a departure from most of
what I have been reading thus far. Rather than floating around in the ether
of theory, Kershner's book goes into the practical 'day-in day-out'
experience of a flight instructor. Covers a bunch of stuff; like that one
thing I'm sure all CFI candidates have thought about - releasing that first
student to solo. Just a good book. I must say, I had seen Kershner's books
when I was working on my PP and Instrument but I just didn't find them
'inviting' and turned to the Kings, Gleim, ASA and Sporty's <g> (plus
'a-billion' other books and learning materials).

So, I just wanted to mention if there are any CFI candidates out there who
haven't read this book,,, it is well-worth a *read*. Another interesting
one (but a little less information-rich) is "The Savvy Flight Instructor" by
Greg Brown - actually got a chance to 'meet him' at an AOPA seminar he
taught one year - one very nice fellow. Now if I can just run into Lane
Wallace of Flying Magazine (I love the shorts she writes),,, my life will be
'complete' LOL! ;)

This is one post I'm sure isn't spam. Bill Kershner is one
author/pilot who does not not need spam to hype his books and teaching
skills! I can't recommend them enough.

I have always used Kershner and recommend his work highly to all flight
instructors.
Good luck with the test CC. Let me know how it goes. I'm sure you'll do just
fine.
