But for many it means dawn starts and midweek departure headaches. Now Lufthansa's version, German Wings, is offering an alternative. With a civilised departure time of 11 am from Edinburgh Airport, German Wings takes its passengers to Cologne. From there connecting flights are available for a wide range of destinations from Moscow to Malaga as well as internal flights across Germany. But why not spend a weekend in Cologne itself?
