Flyglobespan is taking off in a big way
ALISTAIR MCARTHUR, Scotsman Online 18/01/06
FLYGLOBESPAN, Scotland's leading low-fares airline, produced another
stellar performance as it recorded a 50 per cent rise in both profits and
passenger numbers last year.
The Edinburgh carrier's contribution to the profits of the Globespan Group
rose to £3.1 million from £2m in the 12 months to 31 October, while
passenger numbers increased by 50 per cent to almost 1.5 million.
The company has increased its programme for this year, including the launch
of a daily Glasgow to Orlando service - the first daily Florida route from
a UK low-cost airline.
The new route follows Flyglobespan stepping in to replace EasyJet on the
Glasgow-Amsterdam route, launching Edinburgh/Glasgow-Stansted flights, and
increasing services to Geneva.

Let's hope Flyglobespan's winning ways continue. :-)

The great thing about Globespan is that it is Tom Dalryymple's company.
Unlike other PLCs where they go only where the profits are best he can, and
does, choose to expand services from Scotland as well as looking for
opportunities elsewhere. As he has been flying pax from Scotland for
decades I have every faith he will continue to serve Scotland as a priority.
Well done Mr D,
Doug

What else would you expect a monopoly service to be doing?

No Joe. As I have said several times elsewhere Globespan's market niche is
short, self booking packages to popular resorts where they will make money
from the flights, hotels, car hire etc. Manchester does not fit into
anything they currently do so very well.
