When we met, Mr Dalrymple was locked in a conference call with Boeing
in Seattle about a delay in painting the first of three brand new
737-800s he is buying.

The first one is being painted as we speak," he says. "The delivery
date has slipped by three days and we are having to make up time at
present. It affects a very, very small number of start-up flights but
doesn't measurably change our plans.

The three 189-seater aircraft are being leased over eight to ten years
at £80m each and will arrive separately in April, May and June.

Together with two Boeing 737-600s bought outright for £40m from
Scandinavian airline SAS, they will double the number of aircraft in
the Flyglobespan fleet. "These are the planes that have allowed us to
put in daily services from Edinburgh to the sun spots that have
transformed the whole holiday game," boasts Mr Dalrymple.

In the more immediate future, Flyglobespan will start providing flights
from Aberdeen next summer and is also considering expanding into
England. "We already fly from every airport in the UK to Canada (as
Globespan) and the Flyglobespan model is highly transportable to the
south," notes Mr Dalrymple

Flyglobespan currently flies from Edinburgh to Spain, France, Italy and
Switzerland and another route will be announced in May when the new
Boeings are in place.

So a new route for EDI, new base at ABZ, possible expansion in
England...GO GLOBESPAN! lol

Quote from The Scotman

BOEING'S 7E7 Dreamliner has been dubbed a "plastic plane" because it
contains so little metal, the corrosive arch-enemy of the airlines.

The US giant claims the Dreamliner will provide more legroom, bigger
windows, cleaner air, use less fuel - and offer the chance to fly
direct from Scotland to parts of the world other aircraft cannot reach.

"Imagine, Edinburgh to the west coast of the US, the Caribbean and
Florida, one stop to Australia, non-stop to most of Africa, the Gulf
and India and non-stop to many airports in the Far East," drools Tom
Dalrymple of Flyglobespan.

"It is definitely a good machine for Scotland because there is no other
aircraft that can do that from the runways here."

Surely the A330-200 is easily capable of these routes from either GLA
or EDI

Could you not buy them outright for about that much?

Not short of cash are they!;-)

Aren't many places I can think of that don't have established competition,
but if they think they can do all right than good luck to them!

Even if a London route is announced from GLA there does seem to be 1 or 2
holes in the GLA schedule which might hopefully be filled by a new route or
two!

Perhaps Mr Dalrymple might like to quote us the dates and timings of
the Blackpool to Canada, Southampton to Canada and London City to
Canada services, seeing that they "fly from every airport in the UK to
Canada".

Mind you, we've already had the Globespan experience at MAN when they
converted a successful short-haul charter airline (Excalibur) which was
around for a number of years into a "ropey" operation using Skyjet
DC10s on long-haul which lasted just a few months!

I understand that the problem was painting the livery on the tail, all
is sorted now though and should be here shortly.
