Hot off the vine. It looks like FlyBe are considering EDI, ABZ or Humberside
for their next base.

EDI sounds great. Is there any airline that has a major hub in EDI?
Loganair is IMO domestic Scotland.
BA doesn't have a hub in EDI. Scotairways a small one?

Scotairways and Flybe both have crews and technical support based. They have
bases in Edinburgh.

Eh sorry Joe..
Jim hasn't finished the Based aircraft link and his page is not finished
yet.
Think you will find there are a dozen cabin crew, 4 engineers and probably a
dozen pilots for BE. Scotairways about the same.. Just ask your neighbour.

I wish he'd hurry-up, what happened to Jim's advance 'alerts' for one-offs.?

I'm not doubting Channex, Scotairways or Jersey, or the fact that
Servisair have leased a hangar
that would suit maintenance facilities for other airlines.
All that space over at Turnhouse leased to coach companies etc.... BAA
don't appear to be
pushing EDI for bases... (
There's a lot of ground work around the old GPO compound, does Jim know
what's going
on there.?

Take a guess Joe? Jim works in the industry and there is only so much he can
alert people to before it becomes A) Commercial Sensitive or B) A Security
Risk. Now I know for a fact that some planespotters don't like others
knowing the information and sometimes it can go the wrong way.. I have
experienced it as well!

When Servisair took the hanger in 97 Joe it was in a condition which was not
sutible for aircraft, work was required to bring it up to standard and the
floor was failing and would need replaced. Seeing the advantages of mass
storage space Servisair bought the property and converted it into there
cargo warehouse. One thing you may see is that the hanger is big but those
doors have cables which pull and push them and those cables will restrict
anything over HS748 size to fit into the hanger.

Not sure but my £50 worth is that they are making a area ready for the
building of the new taxiways, a temp area if you like to house the masses of
equipment and the workers huts.

I'm sure the Hangar needs renovation, it's probably a listed
building anyway,.

Correct Joe, were putting in an On-Site concrete plant for next year in
conjunction with AMEY and ourselves TARMAC.
As we have heard there is lot of concrete going into EDI for numerous
projects, ie taxiways etc....Tarmac have 2 concrete plants located 10 mins
from EDI with capacity of app. 40m per hour from each, the plant which is
going in there is coming up from Manchester and can load 2 truck mixers at
the same time, app.12m every 6-8 mins..so I've heard..So something big is
coming off at EDI as Tarmac and Amey wouldn't be spending all that cash on
this plant, when we have 2 Plants within 10 mins and another 3 within 20
mins and 15 readily available trucks in that area .

Lets hope the runway starter strips are being included along with
extra apron spaces stands for wide-bodies.
EDI has got to get out of the 'regional' rut and into 2003!
