FlyBE unveils new Edinburgh route

Born-again regional airline FlyBE is to launch twice-daily flights
from Edinburgh to Southampton next month, with fares starting from
just £19. The internet-based airline said the first flights will leave
the runway on 26 October.

The route is one of 15 FlyBE is launching from Southampton this year.
FlyBE's head of market development Ian Taylor said: "FlyBE has a
strong presence in Scotland and it was always our intention to add
flights to this important capital from Southampton.

Edinburgh is popular with business and leisure travellers alike and we
are confident these new services will be very popular."

Great to finally get some competition on this route!

Yes. But it makes it less likely that flyBe will offer
any direct services to Europe from EDI now that their
SOU hub has been established.

Indeed, and with feeder flights to their Exeter base next year in addition
to the current Birmingham ones. Good for UK domestic travellers, but
(perhaps) not so good for those wishing to travel further afield without a
change of aircraft. Still, if the prices are right, it's always another
option!

Actually, aren't flybe withdrawing some services from NCL? Let's lobby them
to relocate any aircraft to EDI to be operated on new Euro routes!

Yes, EDI is well served for internal flights but, I agree, we could do

with more direct flights to mainland €urope.

We all hope that in the absence of flybe (who, to be fair, offers
EDI-CDG on the Air France flight) the new Duo routes will be a success.

We do indeed, and I'm sure they will be!
