This article discusses recent cases of "megahail" falling from the sky
since 2000. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megacryometeors

Is there anyway 10 to 400 pound ice chuncks could form on a jet
airplane and fall? Is it possible with a deicing system.

For what it's worth, I've heard of "blue ice" doing that, but I believe
(without checking that wiki link) that the "megahail" was not "blue ice".
