A NEW £25million hotel, the largest in Scotland, will open in Glasgow later
this month.

http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/hi/news/5017989.html

The 321-room Jurys Inn is nearing completion and will open its doors on
August 22, creating 110 jobs.
Built on the site of a former car park in Jamaica Street, the three-star
hotel includes 13,000sq ft of conference space.
It will be the biggest in the country, eclipsing the 319-room Hilton in the
city centre.

Irish-based Jurys already owns hotels in Great Western Road in Glasgow,
Edinburgh's Old Town and 12 other UK sites.
The latest opening follows the £45m launch of the Radisson SAS in Argyle
Street last year.

And a new four-star hotel, on the site of the former Strathclyde Regional
Council building on India Street, is also due to open later this year.
Macdonald Hotels, Britain's eighth largest hotel group, is building the
320-bedroom hotel, which will include a sky bar, a rooftop restaurant and
conference rooms.
There are already 14,500 hotel rooms in the city, and an estimated 20,000
beds, including B&Bs.

But Peter Stack, manager of the new Jurys Inn, is convinced there is a
strong demand for extra rooms.
Research shows Glasgow is the most popular UK destination with Irish
visitors, and the UK's third most popular short-stay city.
It is also the fastest growing conference destination in Europe, with a rate
of growth bigger than Paris, Vienna and Barcelona.
Tourism bosses say conferences alone now generate £50m a year for hotels and
businesses in the city.
