A friend is looking at both of these LSA's for a prospective kit
purchase.

Eurofox is an Avid derivative and costs much less than the Escapade.

The Escapade claims to be much faster, on the same 80HP Rotax.
Numbers fudged a little maybe?

Anybody here have any experience with either of these?

http://www.eurofox-usa.com/

http://www.justaircraft.com/CMS/

Thanks.

As part designer of the Escapade, I have to declare an interest. I have no
commercial connection to Just Aircraft or Reality Aircraft though, as I did
the work pretty much on a hobby basis.

The Escapade performance figures were derived from many tens of hours of
independent flight tests by a qualified test pilot as part of the UK BCAR
Section S microlight approval process. They refer to calibrated airspeed
and are accurate to within about 1kt of the actual performance of the
aircraft at different weights. These performance figures are on
www.realityaircraft.com, the UK manufacturers site, and differ slightly from
the figures quoted by the US manufacturer, Just Aircraft.

The maximum weight that the Escapade has been certified to is 499kg at
+4g, -2g, but it has reserve strength in the primary structure to go to
about 530kg safely at these g limits. Using the US +3.8g upper limit the
gross weight can be increased to about 558kg. In the UK the microlight
version is limited to 450kg gross to comply with the UK microlight weight
limit. Typical empty weights of builders aircraft are coming out at about
262 - 264kg for the 912 engined versions and a few kg's lighter for those
with the Jabiru 2200. In my view, the Jabiru is the better engine. It's
cheaper, simpler to install, gives adequate performance and sounds great.
It's also proved to be very reliable. The worst engine is probably the
912S, as it tends to vibrate and doesn't give any reall worthwhile
performance gain. The turbocharged 914 is almost certainly too heavy unless
tail ballast is fitted. I note that Just Aircraft offer this engine, but as
the guy that did the original stress calcs and dimensional design with
regard to structural loading and C of G I disagree with them.

The UK manufactured version of the Escapade will soon be approved to CS-VLA,
the European light aircraft airworthiness standard.

Hope this helps, but remember I may not be a neutral adviser!

If you're big at all or plan to carry anyone that is big then the
Escapade (or Highlander) is the hands down winner. I'm 6'7" and 250#
and fit fine sitting next to another guy almost my size.

Plus it's a US company.

And a part-UK company, and part-UK designed, and UK approved.

Oh, it';s also manufactured in the UK as well....................
