http://www.ameinfo.com/74076.html

'Emirates will add a brand new Boeing 777-300ER (Extended Range)
aircraft on this route - which is Scotland's only direct long-haul
service to operate eastwards -providing 50 per cent more seat capacity
each day than the existing Airbus A330-200......'

***Scotland's only direct long-haul

PIA?

Still this is great news for Scotland and should push the pax numbers
of a bit at GLA if its a 50% increase in capacity its like geting a new
daily A330 service.

Well....1.5 daily A330's....

"The introduction of larger aircraft reaffirms our commitment to
developing our operation to and from Glasgow International Airport."

Anyone smell 2x daily ??

Get real.

What makes you think that EK will go double daily from GLA and not
offer the second service out of EDI?

Like many other wishes and hopes of this group a second EK service from
GLA will not happen,

Remember the EZY,AA, DL and LH rumours.

The SE and BAA will ensure it doesn't happen

I really don't think BAA care that much. There is more infrastructure at GLA
to handle such flihgts than there is at EDI and hence an EDI service
(particularly if timed in the middle of the day) will probably require the
BAA to invest money at EDI in order to handle it that they wouldn't have to
invest if it was at GLA.

Granted, however, is the SE - I'm sure EK will be under very intense
lobbying in order to get them to launch EDI instead of a 2nd daily GLA
service.

Same reason they went double daily at BHX instead of adding EMA and
double daily at MAN instead of Liverpool or Newcastle etc.

Well sadly for the SE and yourself, EK cannot fly to EDI without slots.
Guess what, they still don't have any. Oh, and the 2nd daily GLA slots
are still there...

Ofcourse this could change in June, but I'd expect an announcement from
EK before then.

Don't see the relevance of EMA to BHX or NCL/LPl to MAN. These
comparisons don't compare to the EDI/GLA reality.

EK could just as easily run an evening service out of EDI and pull
effectively the same catchment area as out of GLA. After all the both
airports are within one hours travel time of each other.

Watch this space if you don't believe me.....Delta did!

GLA/EDI is the exact same as MAN/Liverpoo or BHX/EMA.

And how many weeks, months, years does it take to get an evening or any
slot at EDI for that matter.

Slot applications are no guarantee of anything....see DL if you don't
believe me.

Well from what I understand airlines can only apply for slots twice
every year at so called "slot conferences". There was one in November
(Osaka) and the next one is in June (Vancouver).

For the November applications, the airline must decide if its going to
operate the route or not by January 31st I think.

Yes slots don't mean too much, but surely the fact they have 2x daily
at GLA and nothing at EDI tells you something?

Although in my opinion EDI will see EK, maybe not until late 2007 or
early 2008 though.
