I have just finished a lengthy meeting with my EK sales rep this is
what I have news wise!

5 more schedules to be added to the u.k / Ireland by nov05

BHX double daily is almost definitely to be announced on Friday then
we will go back to the A330 in march (subject to confirmation on x2
service)

EDI WILL commence by summer05! This is a definite! But no double daily
yet for GLA

MAN will go to three per day from summer schedule 05

DUB will be announced for start next summer, this has been brought
forward by almost 2 years!

SYD is going double daily and it is likely to be via SIN not CMB or
direct! As some have mentioned

China is being looked into for both CAN & PEK, PEK is high on the
list!

One interesting subject that was brought up is NCL ........ Its being
looked into! As we speak! So watch this space, don't expect anything
this year but maybe end of next year!

Very interesting indeed. Great news if it happens!

EK seem to be proposing to 'do a CO' as far as the UK is concerned. By
making their regional services as widely accessible (and therefore as
attractive) as possible, they will be one step ahead of their competitors
who only fly to the Middle East from LHR (i.e. British Airways).

Fingers crossed.

I hope the proposed EDI schedule is released quickly, folk tend to make
long haul arrangements well in advance. :-)

Certainly good news if BAA can get their act together and give EK all they
need at EDI,

My thoughts entirely, the service could give EDI the long-haul
impetus it so desperately needs. Smile

It's not happened yet, the impending 'blow' would be more severe if
AC and others were to finally yield.?

Did you know the 'headers' to this thread had been changed from the original?

You can't expect an instant influx of long haul carriers at EDI. These
things take time, and besides BAA Edinburgh will need to build the airport
up gradually over the next decade with more stands/gates etc. before it will
be able to handle the volume you appear to envisage.

Of course, that doesn't stop them handling a few long-haul routes in the
mean time, but you have to be patient and stop expecting everything five
years ago!!

IMO there are still plenty of gaps in EDI's European schedules which should
take priority just now anyway. :-)

BAA have underestimated EDI's growth on no fewer than 14 consecutive
occasions.!

EDI's MD is on record of stating in his inaugural speech that there
would be no more big jets in Edinburgh skies..

Seems my 'envisages' have more credibility?

BAA have consistently resisted change of track from day 1! :-(

The ones that are been coveted from another BAA branch.?

I always thought this was more likely than double-daily at GLA tbh - they
will probably recieve RDF money to start an EDI service that they might not
get to go 2x daily at GLA. A double daily from GLA might have also caused
disquiet in Edinburgh quarters as well - and not just from the Livi loony!

With this and the possible DUB service it looks like EK are following CO's
lead and planning to expand long-haul direct from regional airports. Well
done to them!

The only thing that concerns me about these flights to DXB is the situation
in the middle east - I know the UAE is stable, but a few terroist attacks
against western interests there could be very harmful.

Joe

You obviously mistake me for someone who gives a stuff about your opinion.

The story is relevant to all Scottish passengers and airports.
