Edinburgh Airport to make temporary changes to airport night operation

BAA News Release 22/09/05

Edinburgh Airport is to make a temporary change to runway use during the
night to allow a short-term programme of essential routine maintenance
and repairs to be carried out.

The airport’s main runway (06/24) will close between the hours of 23:00
and 05:45 each night from Saturday 1 October 2005 to Tuesday 11 October
2005 which will mean night flights landing and taking off from the
secondary runway.

Airport Managing Director Richard Jeffrey said: “This bi-annual short-
term programme of work is essential to maintain Edinburgh Airport’shigh
standards of operational facilities and safety.

“In order to minimise any inconvenience to our neighbours in surrounding
communities, we aim to complete the work as quickly as possible. We
apologise to those people who may be temporarily affected by these
important measures.”

I wonder what they are actually doing to the runway at these times, for
as long as I can remember the main has been closed at night in early
spring/early autumn for these works but I don't recall it happening at
any other BAA Scottish airport on such a regular basis?
