My guess is that the answer is a flat 'no', but I thought I'd ask it anyway.
Can one use E6B software for their written exam (either the private of the
instrument written)? Just wondering...

Last time I took a written (less than 2 years ago), you could bring in
an electronic E6B, but you could not bring in a computer, a PDA, or
anything which might contain a memory (of answers for example).

Makes sense and that is kind of the basis for what I thought... Thanks!

In my case they would not even let me bring a calculator with memory. They
had to loan me one of their 4 function calculators. For a die-hard HP RPN
user that it was tough adjustment.

Last time I took a written (a week ago) the situation was unchanged.
Anything electronic must have all of its memory erased before the start
of the test. I brought in a prehistoric four-function calculator and
the proctor ensured that it was not storing all the answers.

However, electronic E6Bs are allowed. I have and prefer an aluminum one,
but battery operated ones are permitted.

You were required to prove that you had wiped the memory.

I tested at a LaserGrade place; the software administering the test
came with a rockin' E6B; I never touched my whizwheel nor the
calculator I'd brought with me. Scored 90%.
