Wrong on two points, at least.

His security team required him to wear a bullet-resistant vest.

Of course. The thing is a box between his shoulders on the back, nothing
like a falk jacket. Look at the photos at CNN and BBC. Witnesses saw
there was something in his ear.

I don't know what Peter Falk had to do with the debate (although I do

know that he wears a pretty ratty jacket in "Columbo"), but since there
were so many rules;
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/09/21/debate.highlights/ ;
would they not have made sure that Bush, and also Kerry, did not have a
'prop', or 'life line'?

This reminded me ...;

The nuLabor party was notorious for ensuring that
all oldLabour (and nuLabor) personnel remained
strictly 'on message' and insisted that all adherents
carry 'bleepers' * at all times. ...
Seems a group of people were gathered together,
the group included a labour MP .., the other guys
were puzzled when the MP pulled out his vibrating
'bleeper' and stared at the display .. he then went
crimson and expired! His bleeper fell to the floor.
One of the guys enquired; what could the message be
that had such a catastrophic effect? Tentatively the
group looked at the bleeper ... and read;-

BREATHE IN

BREATHE OUT!

*Bleepers are going the way of the Dodo ...

I'll buy that. On his ranch, when he doesn't have a suit coat on, he doesn't
look like he has love handles, but in a suit coat, he does. I say a
vest...maybe a wire too, but a vest. i'm surprized more leaders don't wear
them...a vest that is.

Has there ever been a Republican President the left did *not* insist was
"dumb"?

All of whom, oddly enough, were smart enough to defeat the Demorat?

Ike was not dumb but I'm too young to remember his press

coverage. I do remember Nixon's, he was accused of a lot of
things but not stupidity.

Intelligence does not correlate well with either correct decision
making or success[1]. Other factors seem at least as important.
Bush the elder was not very bright but made a number of good
calls, some under serious pressure. His son is brighter, but
hasn't done as well.

[1] note that I said "does not correlate well" not "correlates
negatively."
