What's so secret about it ? I picked up a paperback book at a
truck stop titled " Wings of Fury " by Robert K. Wilcox a few years ago
that talked about this whole program.
Never judge a book by it's cover I say. I purchased this book
even though it had a real cheesy cover. A-4 Blue Angel Skyhawks in
formation on the cover. I thought to myself " well this is going to
be boring ". Boy was I wrong ! Some real cool dogfight action
covering many topics and wars in military aviation. ( Including secret
Migs in West United States Desert locations ).

Back in the 1970s I thought that I had read that in return for US aid Egypt
had given some of its MiGs to the US. Perhaps the story is that what was
widely reported had now been officially confirmed.

Remember seeing a Mig-21 at the Offut / SAC museum that had no papers
and just "appeared" one day. Plane now at the new museum between Omaha
& Lincoln NE.

The Migs used by the USAF were older models such as the 15, 17, 19 and
21. A few 23's were acquuired from a cooperating source (Egypt) in
exchange for providing used 1966 era F-4E Phantoms.

Some Migs were imported from China and Poland by a private company
worknig on behalf of the government.

In 2002, we purchased 21 Moladavia MIG-29C's along with 507 missiles
and spare parts supply to prevent their being sold to Iran. FTD
analyzed the innards of some of the 29's, kept one MIG-29UB as a gate
guard and passed one MIG-29C to the USAF Museum where it is being
refurbished for display. To date, nothing has been said about the
remainder being used as aggressor aircraft at Tonopah. Known museum
sites for the MIG-29 exist at NAS Fallon, the petting zoo at Nellis AFB
and a base in Florida that has one example on display.

Nothing has been said about the use of SU-27's and Mig-25's at Tonopah.
Whether or not they were used is a decision they will make in
releasing the information.
