Air crash experts issue training call

FRANK URQUHART Scotsman Online 23/08/06

THE government's Air Accident Investigation Branch yesterday issued an
urgent safety warning following an emergency at Aberdeen Airport in which a
passenger plane overshot the runway.

City Star Airlines, the new Scottish airline, was forced to suspend all its
flights in June after one of its aircraft, a twin-propeller Dornier 328,
overran the main runway by 350 metres before coming to a halt. All 16
passengers and three crew, on a flight from Stavanger in Norway, escaped
uninjured.

The issue for me is the operation of the Dorniers to and from LCY - an
airport with virtually no overrun space at all. Given the outcome of the
Italian incident I am considering using only the BA flights to LCY from
here on as this kind of thing worries me, especially where the type
approval holder seems to have taken no action.
