A couple of points I have been wondering about. Not living in the
central belt I was wondering if they were advertising in the Glasgow
area as I have not seen anything in this area{Southwest].If not are
they purely concentrating on the German market where they are well
known presumably.
If this proves successfull do you think Lufthansa will react by
providing a Gla-Fra service. I presume they are not heavily marketing
Gla-Sta in Germany but are marketing the Germany Scotland flights. I
just cannot see Lufthansa sitting back and seeing them take a large
slice out of their very succesfull Edi-Fra flights without some kind
of reaction. I know their markets at certain points are not exactly the
same eg worldwide but Air Berlin seem to have a huge European network
that could be extended from Gla everytime they add a Stanstead flight.

There have been a few realtively small ads in The Herald and I think there
was one in The Scotsman today. I don't know about the tabloids cause I can't
say I read them. Overall, what advertising there has been does seem to have
been pretty low-key, given that most potential travellers in Scotland will
have never heard of them. The adverts seem to be focussed on the 2 daily STN
aspect, rather than the German connections, although they have been
mentioned.

Obviously, we don't know what they are doing in Germany, but hopefully they
are reciveing a significant amount of visitscotland marketing support (a
subject much discussed recently on here!) - If 3/4xweekly EDI-HAM gets
almost a million then I would hope this route will get equivalent.
Visitscotland give marketing support to indirect EDI-BHX-MAD flights, so
there should be no impediment to AB getting money imo. If given adequate
support, they should be able to attract a lot of German tourists - this is
really a test to see if visitscotland do have an interest in promoting GLA
flights. Of course, given they have a hub at STN, they will probably be
better known there and hence may pick up more pax at that end. We should
also not that AB flights are available on expedia.co.uk and presumably
therefore on other equivalent sites and travel agents (although I haven't
checked). This will give them a bit more exposure and perhaps make
advertising a little less important.

Whilst I'm sure these flights (if well promoted) will take away some EDI-FRA
traffic, I'm not sure it'll be that significant. After all, 30%ish on these
flights is point-to-point to FRA, which AB won't take, and then a lot of
connecting traffic is to destinations outside Gremany. Even within Germany,
AB don't offer connections from the GLA flights to many major cities like
HAM, MUC, STR, CGN. Additionally, I don't think it's easy to get FRA slots
even if LH did want to fly to GLA.

They do have a large Euro network, but STN seems really only to be a hub for
German flights. Thier hub for Spain seems to be PMI, so maybe there could be
an opportunity for flights to there from AB, especially given the strong
point-to-point demand that exists already to PMI. AB recently launched new
STN-ALC flights and said there might be more flights direct from the UK to
Spain and other Euro destinations. Perhaps they are planning on launching
more routes soon and plan to only really step up advertising when they
announce them?

When I came into GLA on Thursday, around 12:00, Air Berlin Staff were
handing out "fliers", guess it was a timetable, to passengers coming
out of the domestic baggage reclaim.

They came to my attention via a flyer at Stansted on my way to a GSM flight.
